Nigerian Citizen's Brutal Rampage in Jakarta Leaves 2 Elderly Women Hospitalized

PIKIRAN RAKYAT – An incident occurred on May 5, 2023, in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta where a Nigerian citizen went on a rampage and assaulted an elderly woman who lived in the apartment complex. The Nigerian citizen was arrested and handled by the authorities.

The Head of Immigration Office Class I at the Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) in Jakarta handed over the case to the police as it falls under the category of a general crime.

"This is currently being handled by the police as it falls under the category of a general crime," said Qris Pratama.

The police reported that the perpetrator indiscriminately attacked two grandmothers. One of the grandmothers was kicked and punched, while the other was stabbed when she tried to break up the altercation. The police arrested the perpetrator and found a sharp weapon in his possession.

Chief Police of Kelapa Gading, Kompol Vokky Sagala, confirmed that the perpetrator blindly attacked two grandmothers in the 20th-floor hallway of the apartment complex.

"Yes, that's right, the Nigerian citizen went berserk and assaulted the grandmothers, with one person even being kicked and punched," said Vokky, explaining the incident of the assault.

The two victims were taken to the hospital for intensive care. The incident was recorded on CCTV and uploaded to the Instagram account @info_kelapa_gading, showing the bloody aftermath of the attack in the hallway of the apartment complex. Another post showed the perpetrator being apprehended by security personnel and the police.

Previously in 2022, the Class I Immigration Office of North Jakarta TPI detained 18 foreign nationals (WNA) residing in the Gading Nias Residence Apartment, Pegangsaan Dua, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. During the surveillance operation, Immigration worked with the Apartment Gading Nias Residence Management and Security.

"We cooperated with the management of Gading Nias Apartments in conducting field data collection. Many WNA were uncooperative and hiding in their rooms," Head of the North Jakarta TPI Class I Immigration Office, Sandi Andaryadi explained.

Out of the 18 WNA, only 7 could show their passports/travel documents, including 5 Nigerians, 1 Ivorian, and 1 Senegalese. Meanwhile, 11 WNA have not yet been identified due to their inability to show travel documents/passports to immigration officials.

"Currently, we have detained the 18 WNA in our office to conduct an examination of their travel documents and residence permits," Sandi Andaryadi said.

"We will conduct further investigation and checking through the Immigration Database. If it is proven that they have violated immigration rules, then Administrative Immigration Action in the form of Deportation will be taken," he added.

The 18 WNA are suspected of violating Article 71 letter b of Law No. 6 of 2011 because they were unable to fulfill their obligation to show travel documents and Article 78 paragraph 3 of Law No. 6 of 2011 because they have overstayed their residency permits in Indonesia. The latest examination revealed that two Nigerian nationals have been proven to have overstayed and will be deported back to their country on Saturday, January 29, 2022.***
